The Yellow River and Luo River are the earliest places of rise and prosperity for the Chinese nation; the ‘He Tu’ and ‘Luo Shu’ from Luoyang are the earliest books and sources of ancient Chinese civilization and culture. The Taiwanese people’s heritage and adherence to the concept of He Luo actually come from the ‘He Luo’ people from the Yellow River and Luo River regions, not from the ‘Hokkien’ or ‘Fujian’ people. The language passed down and circulated is ‘He Luo’ dialect. Through changes in dynasties and generations, and following the migration south during the Five Barbarians’ invasion, the traditions came to Taiwan. With reverence for the past, passed down from father to son, the authentic practices of selecting, grading, writing, and preparing traditional Chinese medicine have been preserved for over two thousand years. This heritage maintains the pure essence of Chinese cultural traditions, unaffected by the changes of time or political situations.

Professor Zhang Xianzhe, who has devoted his life to the inheritance of traditional Chinese medicine, spent decades visiting various traditional Chinese medicine merchants across Taiwan. He integrated the ancient and high-quality herbal identification knowledge of traditional practitioners into his 45 years of practical teaching experience at China Medical University, establishing a valuable database. Using a highly advanced camera of that time, he meticulously captured the details of these rare herbs, documenting history through his photographs .
